Our iodine production operations are located in the heart of northern Chile, in the Antofagasta and Tarapacá regions.

There lie the largest reserves of brine and caliche, a mineral that contains the world’s largest known deposits of nitrate and iodine and is the only source of this resource on the planet.

SQM Iodine Plant Nutrition is produced using these mineral resources.

Planta Nueva Victoria, the world's largest iodine production center

Pedro de Valdivia Plant, the first operation

Pedro de Valdivia is a fundamental part of this story: it began operations in 1931 with the production of saltpeter, and after numerous innovations and transformations in its processes, it has become a leading iodine producer.

In addition, we operate the port of Tocopilla and the María Elena and Coya Sur plants, where potassium nitrate and sodium nitrate are produced, along with iodine.
